One Wisdom One Truth

Who Would Hear

I believe that there are a whole lot of people in the world who could speak and illuminate one wisdom or one truth that would really matter, that would make a powerful difference. I understand the reluctance to speak up because we believe our voice is too insignificant or worse, the fear of reprisal blinds us to the power of truth. But hiding in silence is a disservice to those who would listen, would hear and would be changed.

There is a truth that is too often locked in a tomb of silence by the perpetuation of entitlement, idolization of power and a subversive commitment to denial.

The truth is, that sexual assault, sexual misconduct, rape and sexual abuse are different terms for the same violation of our most intimate human experience.  Dear callous perpetrator, do you even know the depth of the pervasive persistent trauma you inflict when you ignite fear for our life, when you introduce the destructive force of shame, when you inscribe our innocence with destructive narratives, when you distort our self-worth through the lens of your disregard, when you transfuse our hearts with repulsive beliefs, when you amputate our access to intimacy, when you sacrifice our trust on the altar of your transgressions, when you get off on the degradation of our spirit?

The Impact of Courage

And Taking Responsibility

The truth is, reclaiming our wholeness and dignity is a gradual, hard fought battle for liberation and for some a life of self-destructive impossibility.

So, again, I believe that there are a whole lot of people in the world who could speak and illuminate one wisdom or one truth that would really matter, that would make a powerful difference. I understand the reluctance to speak up because we believe our voice is too insignificant or worse, the fear of reprisal blinds us to the power of truth. But hiding in silence is a disservice to those who would listen, would hear and would be changed.

Just imagine holding the enviable advantages of the attention of a world audience, social prominence, stature and a national awareness which offer the the rare opportunity to illuminate a truth that could be at least so impactful and transformational.

Imagine having the humanity to forsake a lifelong pursuit of personal gain, and the courage to disavow the political machine that holds the potential of a truly meaningful contribution hostage.

What would it mean to all people, our children, our leaders our communities, our young men and women, survivors and abusers to hear , “The truth is, taking responsibility for my despicable actions, is the only right thing to do and is long overdue.  I hear you, I know you speak the truth and I am profoundly remorseful for the many ways my abusive actions have had a lasting, painful impact on your life, the life of another human being for so many years. I accept the consequences of my behavior and acknowledge my disregard for you and the consequences that were yours to bear, the theft of your innocence, sense of safety security and your trust in the world around you. I apologize for the anxiety and sleepless nights, for leaving you feeling less than worthy. I can’t claim to even know all of the wreckage my self-centered, egotistical, misogynistic, abusive, irresponsible behavior has caused. I rightly withdraw my name for consideration. Though my actions are mine and mine alone, I vow to shed light on the factors that were accomplices in discrediting you and conspired to keep your truth in the dark and create the illusion of my credibility in the hopes that the full truth will cripple the perpetuation of this manipulative deceit. May god grant me the grace of showing me how I may be of service in contributing to the end of human exploitation.  I unequivocally acknowledge your truth pray you will find all of the peace and healing you deserve.

Know that all of you soul thieves who choose denial, power and self preservation over accountability will face the Ultimate Judge one day, and there will be no need for a jury, because she already knows the truth.

Fuck all you idiots who choose to believe your actions didn’t matter because you were young or drunk or your victim was young and drunk or your victim was too young to remember.

Fuck all of you who deny the truth because the victim didn't come forward sooner, because your victims didn't tell anyone and didn't pursue legal action.

Fuck all of you who conveniently characterize the abused as over sensitive or overreacting to gain attention in a time when the light is being shined on assault.

Fuck all of you who think victims conveniently come forward only when we can extort or destroy your untarnished reputation.

Fuck all of you who discredit the impact of the abuse because there was no penetration, because we dressed to provocatively, because we had the as audacity to explore our God given right to sexual pleasure in the past, because we asked for it, because no one would know, because you were abused, because you could.

Imagine a world where sexual, emotion, physical and exploitative abuse is not imposed on a single person for an entire generation. A world where a whole generation is free to embrace the full power of their potential, joy, respect and love without the need for a steady diet of medications and drugs in a vain attempt to cope with the hole in their heart that just won’t quite heal. Imagine this one generation is free of any cycle of abuse to pass on to the next generation.

That is a dream worth speaking up for.
